Everytime I log in, I see that "oh, look. something new is in", then I get to the page and lo, and behold, its not new at all !!! It's just reshuffled to the top because someone posted a "thank you" !!! Stuff from a year or two ago is all-of-a-sudden at the top of the queue....what a crock!!!

Isnt there some other way to keep the "newbie post" syndrome to a minimum ?!?

I absolutely agree with the OP. When you're going through forums thread by thread, this reshuffle will only serve to make you miss posts. Because it's impossible to keep track of hundreds of posts in a forum, so logically they should stay put at all times. Threads shouldn't move to the top, simply because someone posts to a thread. And if a thread is so good that it needs to come to the top, it should be stickied.

It's nice to see someone care. Thanks Frank N. Stein for elaborating my thoughts so eloquently. It's a tie !!! (but because you posted I think WE won!!!)

I hope we can disagree without being disagreeable, but I kind of like it the way it is. That's because I start new threads on occasion and I like to see that someone has replied to them.

I understand your viewpoint, but I've not found it inconvenient, because there are not THAT many new posts where it pushes off other threads too quickly.

But here is an easy solution, no matter which side of the debate you're on: click the New Threads link at the top of the page. Then you'll see what's been posted recently.

I think I agree with Bobsky. Sometimes it's good to have a thread refreshed in case some members missed it. It helps to keep links alive that way. Especially with RS's new policy of deleting links that haven't been downloaded in 90 days. After all. It isn't as if there are dozens of post every day at this site.

The main reason for this post was the fact that some new members may be surfing links that are (months) old...and to see these come to the top is downright annoying. Especially when all they ask for is a repost. But I do appreciate bobsky telling me about the "new posts" button. That should dissuade me from further rants i'm sure.

And I appreciate the input on these matters by (some) senior members of the board. It helps keep my views less than one sided.

Thanks all for your input(s).

Thegoodfish.

I just wanted to say, that after having been here for a time, I actually prefer the reshuffle, because I've noticed that the authors of posts sometimes add new items, whereupon their post comes to the top, so I can readily find these new items. I didn't realize this when I first got here, which is when I made my initial post against the reshuffle.

My apologies to the OP.

:)
